Notholirion macrophyllum

This has small bulbs and shorter, broader leaves than most species, sitting tidily below a compressed spike of flowers.

The spikes are quite short, 30-60cm tall here, with widely-flaring, hanging bells of intense violet purple.

In common with most of the other species that we offer, this likes a deep rich woodland-type soil in shade, with good shelter from the wind.

Fully hardy and not at all difficult.
