Arisaema handelii

Another very distinctive and different species, this time from the mountains of China.

The tube is deep red-brown striped with white, but this abruptly turns to the horizontal and becomes lime green, before flaring open and facing upwards again.

From the mouth of the spathe emerges a very fat and tapering green spadix, looking something like a reptilian tongue from a horror movie. This spadix starts in a shаde of deep brown-yellow, but subtly tones to deep red at the tip.

Open leafy soil, light shade and plenty of moving moisture early in its season, but not difficult and very rewarding.
